100 Things: Post #8: Harry Potter

We all knew this post was coming. XD I was planning on putting it off for awhile though. I just couldn't help myself.

I was 21 when the first movie came out. I had never read the books, had never even heard of them actually. I decided I HAD to see the movie when I found out Alan Rickman was in it. I fell in love with the movie and Severus became my favorite character. I started to read the books around the time the 5th movie came out, but couldn't really get into them.

I stayed away from the fandom because I knew what my pairing of choice would be: Harry/Draco. (I'm a sucker for pairings of people that 'hate' each other.) And I didn't want to get sucked into another fandom or pairing like that. I had more than enough other fandoms to keep me busy.



Then, after seeing the final movie I started reading the books and I jumped head first into the fandom. My first pairing was Harry/Draco. It didn't remain my favorite for long though. :)

Through fanfic, Lucius quickly became my favorite character. Now I am completely and thoroughly in love with him.

There are other characters I like and even a few that I love, but for one reason or another they've not made it onto my list of favorites. Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Fred & George Weasley, to name a few.

Least Favorite Characters:
Albus Dumbledore
Percy Weasley
Bellatrx Lestrange
Narcissa Malfoy
Ron Weasley

Why Dumbledore? After really looking at the way Dumbledore acted I can’t really like him much. So many tragedies could have been avoided if he had only been willing to tell people what was actually going on. But instead he just wanted to hold all the power and play puppet-master. His biggest mistake of all? Tom Riddle. He could have done the right thing.  Instead of leaving a Magical Child in a Muggle Orphanage, he could have found the child's nearest living Magical relatives (the Potters or the Blacks) and placed him with them. Then, of course, there's all the mistakes he made with Severus. And finally all the mistakes he made with Harry. A life ruined in three consecutive generations. Ugh! That's a whole other rant that I don't even want to get into right now. Moving on...


Why Ron? I just can’t get past Ron not believing Harry in The Goblet of Fire. With everything Ron knows about Harry, there should never have even been a hint of him not believing Harry. His betrayal pales in comparison to Dumbledore's failures, but it's still a major problem for me.

The down side of being so deeply obsessed with the canon and so involved in the fandom is that you really take the time to look at the characters and examine the things they did and they're motives. Some characters don't survive the scrutiny well. Of course other characters will come out of it looking a whole lot better than they do on the surface. But somehow that doesn't really help when the character that come out the worst is Dumbledore. *sigh*

Oh yay... another person who doesn't think Dumbledore was a saint!! That man was a manipulating bastard all throughout the series and I for one can't stand him!! LOL

I too switched OTP's after getting into the fandom... I was originally a Dramione shipper but though I still love that ship, Drarry is my main love now!! I am a ship whore... pretty much any ship with the pretty boys in them has my vote!! <3

My bff/beta singlemomsummer got me into Harry/Lucius and I love them!! I started a chapter fic of that pairing for her. I used to hate Ron Weasley because in the bks he is a total prat. He has grown on me in fic though and through the movies because of Rupert's performances.

Draco is my fave character by far with Harry and Lucius in a close running behind him. So glad you let yourself get sucked into this fandom...its really amazing!! *squees loudly*

I adored Dumbledore at first... but after really looking at his choices and motivations I just can't like him. He ruined far too may lives simply because he was a power hungry bastard and wanted to do thing his way, no matter the costs. Ugh!

I absolutely love that first banner. It's lovely. I always love seeing how other people see the canon and how their interpretation of canon influences fandom.

On a side note, I am pleased/surprised to see someone sharing my opinion of Dumbledore. It wasn't until I wrote about him in my journal that I made sense of how I felt about him.

I have a lot of head-canon for HP and there are probably a few points of canon that I interpret differently that most of the fandom. I could probably make dozens of posts on the various points of canon that I see differently and the characters that I have widely differing opinions on.

I usually keep my opinion of Dumbledore to myself because he is loved by so much of the fandom. *sigh* I am quite pleased to see a few people share my opinion of him though.
