After finishing a reread of (Draco/Harry fanfic) Runaway Wizard by Suiyou, I turned to the three books I got for Christmas. All three are memoirs.

First up was My Year at the Moulin Rouge by Cliff Simon.I became a fan of Cliff via Stargate SG-1 and  his portrayal of everybody's favorite Goa'uld Ba'al, but I knew vey little about his life beyond that. This book was very engaging. The look behind the scenes of the Moulin Rouge was amusing. What I found most interesting though, was the look at how he changed and grew and how his views and beliefs changed and evolved  once he moved beyond his, rather sheltered, childhood.

Next was On the Road (Growing Up in Eight Journeys - My Early Years) by Richard Hammond. I have read Richard's other memoir books and loved them. I love the way he writes. He writes the way people talk, so his books read as if he was sitting next to you telling you the stories. That said, I didn't much care for this book. I found it a tad boring.

I saved, what I knew would be my favorite, for last. Thanks a Lot Mr. Kibblewhite: My Story by Roger Daltrey. I have wanted to hear/read/see Roger's story told by him for years. There are so many stories about The Who, and it's members, floating around and many of the tales have grown in the telling and with this book we finally get a look at some of those stories from Roger's pov. It's about time. I love this book. Many of the embellishments are stripped away and we see Roger, and The Who, in a very straight forward, no nonsense way. The book is hilarious, thoughtful, melancholy, painful, joyous and It's extremely refreshing.

After all that I found a note I made to remind myself to add a few fanfics to my Harry Potter fic recs post and decided I better re read them to refresh my memory so I would get any needed warning correct. So right now I am half way through a reread of Returning to Sanity by AchillesTheGeek. I forgot just how long this would take me to read. This fic is not for the faint of heart, it's over 640,000 (that's not a typo) words! So, look for it and two other fics, to e added to that post in the coming weeks.(2 Draco/Harry & 1 Severus/Harry/Lucius)

This post is likely going to ramble a bit and seem to jump off in different directions randomly. Sorry. I kinda need to just spew forth words because even a month after finishing this last book I'm still reeling a bit from it.

The Honorverse is probably my absolute favorite book series. It's also just about the only Science Fiction I read. When I started reading the series I had never read any Science Fiction at all and a lot of the technical stuff baffled me. It took quite a while, but I eventually figured it out.

I highly recommend the series.

If you have never read or maybe never heard of the series and are interested, I have a post with information, links and a proper reading order here.

Spoilers Spoilers Spoilers! You have been warned )

The Honor Harrington book series by David Weber is a Science Fiction series set in the future.

Having made him look a fool, she's been exiled to Basilisk Station in disgrace and set up for ruin by a superior who hates her. Her demoralized crew blames her for their ship's humiliating posting to an out-of-the-way picket station. The aborigines of the system's only habitable planet are smoking homicide-inducing hallucinogens. Parliament isn't sure it wants to keep the place; the major local industry is smuggling; the merchant cartels want her head; the star-conquering, so-called "Republic" of Haven is Up To Something; and Honor Harrington has a single, over-age light cruiser with an armament that doesn't work to police the entire star system. But the people out to get her have made one mistake. They've made her mad.  ---Synopsis from 'On Basilisk Station'

A lot of people are posting their books for 2009 lists, which reminds me I haven't even posted my books read in 2008. It's a pitifully short list compared to previous years.

I have been completely sucked in by DragCave and am obsessed with my dragons. :)

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I'm also trying to get ready for Christmas. *sigh* I'm excited, but...not, at the same time. This time of year is always impossibly stressful and it just get worse every year. But I have fun decorating and baking and wrapping presents.

Since I mentioned Twilight in the Fannish Friday 5 the other day, I thought I'd go ahead and say a little bit more about it. The books were good (for what they are). IMO, they aren't OMG!!!111!!!! THE BEST THING EVER WRITTEN!!!!!! But they were good. Keep in mind they are tween/teen books and as such, very light reads (It took me 6 days to read all 4 books). The movie however, was awful. The casting was bad, the script was bad...it was just bad. Really bad.

We've been looking for a new recipe to use sweet italian sausage in. We finally found one and tried it tonight. It was actually quite good.

When asked about the new Amazon Kindle product, Steve Jobs CEO of Apple computer had this to say:

“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”

The DragCave is down for maintenance, so I can't play with my dragons right now. :(    Although it is possible that TJ is adding the new features, which would be awesome!

In other news,

I have finished watching season 6 of Stargate-SG1. We're probably going to wait awhile before we start season 7 (at least until we can collect a few seasons of Atlantis as well).

I haven't been watching Doctor Who lately, but I may pick that up again soon. We're up to the Fourth Doctor right now and I really want to get through them so we can move on to the Fifth Doctor. :)

Well this was a pretty dismal year. I only read 49 books, last year I read 126. I don't know why but I just haven't felt like reading much.
