Multi-Purpose Ramble
Nov. 6th, 2008 06:20 pmWhen asked about the new Amazon Kindle product, Steve Jobs CEO of Apple computer had this to say:
“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
I read 49 books last year. Which actually is really pitiful as I can read 126 books in a year. While we're on the subject of books...
I just got Backup by Jim Butcher, Salvation in Death by J.D. Robb and Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton from the library. I'm also almost finished re-reading the Honor Harrington series and I just put the first of the Twilight books on hold at the library because I've been told by a friend that I have to read them.
The DragCave is down for maintenance, so I can't play with my dragons right now. :( Although it is possible that TJ is adding the new features, which would be awesome!
In other news,
I have finished watching season 6 of Stargate-SG1. We're probably going to wait awhile before we start season 7 (at least until we can collect a few seasons of Atlantis as well).
I haven't been watching Doctor Who lately, but I may pick that up again soon. We're up to the Fourth Doctor right now and I really want to get through them so we can move on to the Fifth Doctor. :)

Date: 2008-11-07 01:21 am (UTC)I love to read and should read more than I do, but grad school really killed reading for fun. I need to rediscover that. (And I just got The Doctor Trap in the mail. yay for international commerce!)

Date: 2008-11-07 01:29 am (UTC)Admittedly I do a lot of my reading online now as well. Baen Books, for instance has a good free electronic library. It's a good way to try new authors especially as our local library seems to have fewer and fewer books.
