We had a general election yesterday.

So what's the next government going to look like? WHO KNOWS!

We have around 10-12 different parties represented in parliament in this country. Coalition government is the norm here. Usually though, parties have been aligned to either the left (red block) or right (blue block). In recent years, however, we've had a party sitting right in the middle, refusing to outright ally with one block or the other. They can go either way and they become kingmaker when neither block can form a clear majority without them.

Which is the situation we have now. We don't even really have a particularly clear idea of who's likely to leading the negotiations for the formation of a government.

I foresee these negotiations are probably going to go on for about a decade...

This was authoritative, but I found videos as informative and more fun for 'The Fall of Bahama Breeze,' a tale of the Retail Apocalypse.

I went to the source, the United Nations, for The United Nations on Water for All People for a late World Water Day, instead of using this. Besides, I didn't like the computer voice.

My room is so nearly finished now that Husband has ticked it off his list as done. The cupboard doors went on yesterday, and I'm putting in the shelves as I put things inside them. We're probably going to have to go back and get the remaining two shelves that I initially thought I didn't want, though. I thought, with the layout, they would be too difficult to reach to be useful, but I no longer think this is true. Not urgent, though.

Nearly all my belongings are back in here now. There are still a few things in the lounge, but they will have to wait until I've got these boxes sorted out. It's all quite chaotic.

What remains to be done in here is just some details, like hanging pictures and such. There is also a shelf I want put back up on the wall, which Husband offered to put up for me today. It depends on how far I can get with the chaos already in here. Again, I need to deal with the current chaos before there's room for adding more chaos. I also want to get a cork board and a new bin (blue plastic from the mid-90s is frankly no longer doing it for me in my room of grey and purple!) but I haven't been looking at those yet.

These cupboards have given me so much more storage space than I had before, and they are large enough that I can have the sewing machine, the iron and the big sewing box actually put away and not hanging around on any available surface or the floor. It also makes it seem like I have more free floor space, but I'm pretty certain that's an illusion.

There's a weird empty space in the lounge behind the sofa now, though.

No pictures yet, because so much chaos!

The draft of Happy Nowruz and happy 15th birthday to Crazy Eddie's Motie News included this video. Then I saw a video with an ex-girlfriend and her husband performing the song and replaced it. Maybe next year.

Why This Must Be Read: This is the John Sheppard of The Storm/The Eye, in this story using cold ruthlessness to rescue Rodney from allies of the Genii. It's told entirely from the POV of an original female character, the wife of a powerful local man who's been complicit in capturing and torturing Rodney. John's taken her as a hostage to force Rodney's return, and we see the drama play out through her eyes. There's some great worldbuilding conveyed through her perspective, and her appraisal of John and Rodney is interesting. The bond between John and Rodney is intense but it's left unstated whether they're more than close friends and found family to each other. Beautifully written, gripping, and a great read, especially if you like a dark, fiercely competent John.

Why This Must Be Read: As Victoria Custer, LtLJ wrote higher-rated fics, and I'm especially fond of this one. There's some amnesia trope involved as John loses his memories and is partly transformed into an elf-like alien when he stumbles on a forgotten Ancient device off-world. In his new form he becomes the tribe's leader, with adventures fighting giant creatures in a huge alien forest, hunting, and sex with the lead female and the rest of the tribe. I love how fully John takes to this simpler, more free life. But as with all amnesia fics, he has to return to reality in the end, and his team and colleagues are desperate to retrieve him. A great mix of action/adventure, worldbuilding, uninhibited fun, and the bittersweetness of having to resume his responsibilities again.

Happy Saturday!

I'm going to be doing a little maintenance today. It will likely cause a tiny interruption of service (specifically for www.dreamwidth.org) on the order of 2-3 minutes while some settings propagate. If you're on a journal page, that should still work throughout!

If it doesn't work, the rollback plan is pretty quick, I'm just toggling a setting on how traffic gets to the site. I'll update this post if something goes wrong, but don't anticipate any interruption to be longer than 10 minutes even in a rollback situation.

I decided the Three Stooges throwing pies worked better in Pies in the face for the Razzie 'winners' on Pi Day.

We bought the new furniture for my room yesterday. Husband will start assembling later today.

I am in a MASSIVE PANIC about whether it will fit, even though I've measured it several times and concluded that it will be a bit tight but should fit. But what if I measured wrong!

I have a really stupid Plan C if it turns out it won't fit.

Husband doesn't seem worried at all.
