This post is likely going to ramble a bit and seem to jump off in different directions randomly. Sorry. I kinda need to just spew forth words because even a month after finishing this last book I'm still reeling a bit from it.

The Honorverse is probably my absolute favorite book series. It's also just about the only Science Fiction I read. When I started reading the series I had never read any Science Fiction at all and a lot of the technical stuff baffled me. It took quite a while, but I eventually figured it out.

I highly recommend the series.

If you have never read or maybe never heard of the series and are interested, I have a post with information, links and a proper reading order here.

Uncompromising Honor was released in October and I have read it. It is book 19 in the main series and book 27 in the wider Honorverse. It is also the last book in the main series. The last seven books in the Honorverse have dropped massive bombshells and have changed everything. If you read the first half of the series and stopped for what ever reason, everything you think you know about the series is wrong.

The Mesan Alignment has been controlling the universe for so long that almost everything that has happened has been designed by them. They are directly responsible for the death of Roger Winton (Elizabeth's father); they are indirectly responsible for the death of Edward Saganami because they created the turmoil and unrest in Silesia that led to the need for constant piracy patrols in the region.

Yet the absolute biggest bombshell of them all... The reason Honor seems like a superhuman that can survive anything, the reason she is brilliant at almost anything she touches... The Harrington genome is a Mesan Alpha Line. When Sphinx was being colonized The Harringtons (that weren't already inside The Onion and didn't know about the Alignment) decided to leave Mesa and settle on Sphinx. So yes, between the Harrington genome and Benton-Ramirez y Chou lineage Honor is in fact a Superhuman that has the ability to learn just about anything to a mastery level. It also explains why she suddenly developed empathic abilities, dormant genetic abilities tend to awaken during extremely stressful situations.

I think by the end of Uncompromising Honor David Weber managed to rack up a higher death count that George RR Martin. *sigh* If you are reading the series and have yet to read this book, when you get to the conference in Beowulf and your heart is ripped out and you want to throw the book in a fire... keep reading. Trust the author, he's a bastard but he's not actually pure evil. Read to the end, both Honor and Nimitz WILL be ok.

The war with the Solarian League is over and the Mesan Alignment is off licking it's wounds and concentrating on other aspects of their plan. So aside from the breaking up of the Solarian League, things are currently fairly calm. There are still some threads left dangling around Torch though, so I hope we don't have to wait 5-10 years before we see more books in the extended Honorverse. I would like to see the eventual war with the Mesan Alignment, even if there is a time jump and it's Honor's children doing the fighting.
