An Idiot With A Box and A Screwdriver

So, once again I seem to be in the minority in that I actually liked the 2-part finale of Series 8. In fact it's one of the few episodes of series 8 that I do like. Overall, I haven't really cared for many episodes since the end of Series 6. The writing has been suffering for a while and I've never really warmed to Clara. Now, The Day of The Doctor was BRILLIANT! It reminded me why I love the show. Instead of using the storyline of that episode and pulling it into Series 8, it's been largely ignored and that's sad.
When Missy revealed who she was, I had another moment like I felt with The Day of the Doctor. I had this huge, stupid grin on my face that just wouldn't go away and I LOVED Doctor Who again!
I'll admit, I do have one major concern with The Master. I don't like the way Steven Moffat has turn the Master into a bat-shit crazy, ultra-evil asshat. Yes, there was a point to Simm!Master being crazy. The Time Lords messed with him and drove him round-the-twist for their own ends. BUT!!!! After the events in The End of Time and The Master died, when s/he came back that insanity should have been gone! We should have a Master (Mistress) that is closer to the personality of the original Master (Delgado/Ainley era). That said, I am glad she'll be back again even-though I'm not overly fond of Michelle Gomez. XD
My favorite parts:
Missy: Is everything in order?
The Doctor: Who maintains your heart?
Missy: My heart is maintained by the Doctor.
The Doctor: Doctor who?
*******
The Doctor: Who are you?
Missy: You know how I am. I told you. You felt it. Surely you did?
The Doctor: Two hearts.
Missy: And both of them yours.
The Doctor: You’re a Time Lord.
Missy: Time Lady, please. I’m old-fashioned.
The Doctor: Which Time Lady?
Missy: The one you abandoned, Doctor. The one you left for dead. Didn’t you ever think I’d find my way back?
The Doctor: Who are you?
Missy: Oh, you know who I am. I’m Missy.
The Doctor: Who’s Missy?
Missy: Please, try to keep up. Short for Mistress. Well…I couldn’t very well keep calling myself the Master, now could I?
******
Osgood: Who is she?
The Doctor: You’d never believe me if I told you.
Osgood: Cos I thought she might the Master, regenerated into female form. Your childhood friend, responsible for a number of previous incursions.
The Doctor: That was fairly quick.
*******
The Doctor: I had a friend once. We ran together, when I was little. And I thought we were the same. But when we grew up, we weren’t. Now, she’s trying to tear the world apart and I can’t run fast enough to hold it together. The difference… is this. Pain is a gift. Without the capacity for pain we can’t feel the hurt we inflict.
Danny: Are you telling me, seriously, for real, that you can?
The Doctor: Of course I can.
Danny: Then shame on you, Doctor.
The Doctor: Yes, oh yes.
*******
The Doctor: Thank you. Thank you so much. I really didn’t know. I wasn’t sure. You lose sight sometimes. Thank you! I am not a good man! And I’m not a bad man. I am not a hero. And I’m definitely not a president. And, no, I’m not an officer. Do you know what I am? I… am… an idiot, with a box and a screwdriver. Passing through, helping out, learning. I don’t need an army, I never have, because I’ve got them. Always them. Because love, it’s not an emotion… love is a promise. And he will never hurt her.
******
The Doctor: Of course. The world’s darkest hour. And mine. Where else would you be? Thank you.

Oh, and the smooch between Missy and The Doctor. XD Oh, come on! Even though I've only ever actively shipped Three/Master, I am a Doctor/Master shipper at heart!
Oh!!! And in one of the graveyard scenes if you watch closely in the background there's a Weeping Angel. Likely an unintended consequence of filming in a cemetery, but I squeed a bit anyway.
So, yeah. For now Doctor Who = ♥ ! I fully expect that to change during the next series because I have no faith in Moffat anymore. It's definitely time for some new writers.

The series finale was the best
Date: 2014-11-14 04:33 pm (UTC)I am wondering if there is in any significance to the light. When the Missy shot Osgood and the soldiers, there was a beam of orange light and dust was left behind. When the Missy was shot there was a blue light and NO dust.
Poor Danny, though does that mean Clara is pregnant already otherwise how do you explain future Danny aka Winston?
Re: The series finale was the best
Date: 2014-11-14 08:48 pm (UTC)There seems to be two theories. 1) It was actually the Brigadier (Cyberman) that shot her, so there wouldn't have been the same effect as when she killed Osgood & the others. 2) Missy teleported out before either of the shots hit her.

Don't forget, Time Can Be Rewritten. It would be a cruel twist, but I wouldn't put it past Moffat to do it, it's possible that with Danny dead Winston will never exist. But, at the same time, it's more than possible that Clara is in fact pregnant.
