Day 10

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you.

Ok, so this one I really shouldn't do, because the last thing I need is to start playing in another fandom. The list of fandoms I already read fic in is enormous!

So, of course like the idiot I am I read a House/Cameron fic. Damn. Maybe I should have stuck with my original idea of reading a new (to me) pairing in Harry Potter. Bugger.

If I miss posting tomorrows challenge, someone poke me. I'm going over to AO3 to drown myself in the House/Cameron tag now.

Oh, the fic I read was Detour.
arenee1999: (House)
So I have more new fandoms/obsessions.

I've started watching House. I still have no clue why I didn't watch it while it was on. I adore Hugh Laurie so I knew I'd like it, if for no other reason than I'd get to stare at him. :) I've been streaming it on Netflix and am about halfway through season 4. Did I mention I adore Hugh Laurie? He's gorgeous and I love him and now I want to watch Blackadder and Jeeves & Wooster and A Bit of Fry & Laurie. *sigh*

I've also been rabidly watching everything Tom Hughes has done. I watched The Game on BBC America a couple months ago and immediately became obsessed with him. So I've been watching things like London Hospital, Silk, Dancing on the Edge and a bunch of other stuff. I must admit it's odd having a crush on someone that's actually younger than me.

I'm enjoying the Fandom Snowflake Challenge, it's proven to be quite an interesting experience. I am ready for this round of landofart to be done though. I'm quickly running out of inspiration for graphics. I've begun waiting until just before challenges are due to get them done. Luckily I think there's only a few challenges left before then end of the round. I've been asked to create banners for some BtVS/AtS fic and I'd much rather be doing that.

Day 9

In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed.

Talk about a talent you discovered you have. Finding folks who are geekier than you, or on the flip side, finding out that there is no one geekier than you. A person who changed your life. The possibilities are endless. Big or small, what unexpected surprises have you found?

Day 8

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.

Like most people, I'm not really comfortable with posting this, but as that's the whole point of the challenge, here it is.

Day 7

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

Day 6

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.

I've been wanting an excuse to make new wallpapers for my phone, but all my graphics making time has been spent working on various challenges lately.

Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity?

Day Four

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

So, I'm counting this one done, since I've been commenting on all the Twinmas posts on [livejournal.com profile] hptwinsmut and I've interacted with a couple people from the Snowflake challenge that I've never talked to before.

Day 3

In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing?

Really short boring answer... )

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

I decided to give this a go this year. We'll see if I actually manage to finish it.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Christmas

Dec. 27th, 2014 01:43 pm
arenee1999: (HP Christmas)
Well, the week went fairly smoothly with 1 minor and 1 major hiccup.

I got sick Tuesday night and felt like crap on Christmas Eve, but we still had a lovely time at my BF's mom's house. Then we did Christmas at our house on Christmas Day, still didn't feel great but was a bit better. I got a bunch of fandom related gifts!!!! A Doctor Who Tardis throw(blanket), a Harry Potter Mischief Managed tee shirt, a Harry Potter Deathly Hallows necklace, Harry Potter Dark Mark stick on tattoos, the Joss Whendon biography (Nathan Fillon wrote the Forward), Jayne's Intelligence Review: The Royal Manticoran Navy and Jayne's Intelligence Review #2: The People's Navy . I also got a couple gift cards and shweatshirts and tee shirts and such. XD

I'm still a bit sick. Now instead of being sore and having a fever I'm sneezing and have itchy watery eyes. Ugh! I've taken an allergy pill and it seems to be helping a bit. YAY!

The major issue was our car. It went to the mechanic on Tuesday and the sway bar was sheared off (no clue how that happened), the CV axle needed replacing and it has to go back in Monday morning and have one of the brake hoses replaced because it's on the verge of bursting.

Being sick has also made me fall behind on doing graphics for [livejournal.com profile] landofart and the two entries I need to do for [livejournal.com profile] hptwinsmut, one of which has to be posted tomorrow! EEP! I shall work on that one tonight.

I also want to thank [livejournal.com profile] kitty_fic for the adorable Christmas card and dragon userhead and [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot for the year of paid account and extra userpics!!! ♥♥♥

So, once again I seem to be in the minority in that I actually liked the 2-part finale of Series 8. In fact it's one of the few episodes of series 8 that I do like. Overall, I haven't really cared for many episodes since the end of Series 6. The writing has been suffering for a while and I've never really warmed to Clara. Now, The Day of The Doctor was BRILLIANT! It reminded me why I love the show. Instead of using the storyline of that episode and pulling it into Series 8, it's been largely ignored and that's sad.

When Missy revealed who she was, I had another moment like I felt with The Day of the Doctor. I had this huge, stupid grin on my face that just wouldn't go away and I LOVED Doctor Who again!

I'll admit, I do have one major concern with The Master. I don't like the way Steven Moffat has turn the Master into a bat-shit crazy, ultra-evil  asshat. Yes, there was a point to Simm!Master being crazy. The Time Lords messed with him and drove him round-the-twist for their own ends. BUT!!!! After the events in The End of Time and The Master died, when s/he came back that insanity should have been gone!  We should have a Master (Mistress) that is closer to the personality of the original Master (Delgado/Ainley era). That said, I am glad she'll be back again even-though I'm not overly fond of Michelle Gomez. XD

My favorite parts:

Missy: Is everything in order?
The Doctor: Who maintains your heart?
Missy: My heart is maintained by the Doctor.
The Doctor: Doctor who?

*******

The Doctor: Who are you?
Missy: You know how I am. I told you. You felt it. Surely you did?
The Doctor: Two hearts.
Missy: And both of them yours.
The Doctor: You’re a Time Lord.
Missy: Time Lady, please. I’m old-fashioned.
The Doctor: Which Time Lady?
Missy: The one you abandoned, Doctor. The one you left for dead. Didn’t you ever think I’d find my way back?

The Doctor: Who are you?
Missy: Oh, you know who I am. I’m Missy.
The Doctor: Who’s Missy?
Missy: Please, try to keep up. Short for Mistress. Well…I couldn’t very well keep calling myself the Master, now could I?

******

Osgood: Who is she?
The Doctor: You’d never believe me if I told you.
Osgood: Cos I thought she might the Master, regenerated into female form. Your childhood friend, responsible for a number of previous incursions.
The Doctor: That was fairly quick.

*******

The Doctor: I had a friend once. We ran together, when I was little. And I thought we were the same. But when we grew up, we weren’t. Now, she’s trying to tear the world apart and I can’t run fast enough to hold it together. The difference… is this. Pain is a gift. Without the capacity for pain we can’t feel the hurt we inflict.
Danny: Are you telling me, seriously, for real, that you can?
The Doctor: Of course I can.
Danny: Then shame on you, Doctor.
The Doctor: Yes, oh yes.

*******

The Doctor: Thank you. Thank you so much. I really didn’t know. I wasn’t sure. You lose sight sometimes. Thank you! I am not a good man! And I’m not a bad man. I am not a hero. And I’m definitely not a president. And, no, I’m not an officer. Do you know what I am? I… am… an idiot, with a box and a screwdriver. Passing through, helping out, learning. I don’t need an army, I never have, because I’ve got them. Always them. Because love, it’s not an emotion… love is a promise. And he will never hurt her.

******

The Doctor: Of course. The world’s darkest hour. And mine. Where else would you be? Thank you.

*****

Oh, and the smooch between Missy and The Doctor. XD Oh, come on! Even though I've only ever actively shipped Three/Master, I am a Doctor/Master shipper at heart!

Oh!!! And in one of the graveyard scenes if you watch closely in the background there's a Weeping Angel. Likely an unintended consequence of filming in a cemetery, but I squeed a bit anyway.

So, yeah. For now Doctor Who = ♥ ! I fully expect that to change during the next series because I have no faith in Moffat anymore. It's definitely time for some new writers.
arenee1999: (Snape/Lily-Always)
OMG! I'm feeling a bit overwhelemed with the amout of stuff I need to be reading!

[livejournal.com profile] hp_sexstars started posting today; [livejournal.com profile] interhouse_fest, [livejournal.com profile] hermione_smut, [livejournal.com profile] hp_crossgenfest and [livejournal.com profile] luciusbigbang are all posting as well. A few days ago I got the irresistable urge to re-read [livejournal.com profile] batsutousai's Abandon/Reclaim, which of course reminds me that she just finished posting Stand Against the Moon, that I've yet to read and I have a dozen or so fics on my kindle that I haven't read yet.

And I must mention that the first 2 [livejournal.com profile] hermione_smut enteries are crossovers with MCU and Doctor Who!!!

This doesn't even cover all the lovely stuff that was posted in October that I haven't had a chance to read yet either, or the books that I'm behind on. I have Written in my Own Heart's Blood (Outlander), Skin Game (Dresden Files), A Shiver of Light (Merry Gentry) and A Call to Duty (Honorverse).
arenee1999: (Technobabble)
Ok, so I'm having an odd problem with my Kindle. While I'm reading, when I 'turn the page' what I'm reading closes, the home page comes up and I get a pop up saying 'The selected item could not be opened. If you purchased this item from Amazon, delete the item and download it from Archived Items.'  It's really starting to annoy me.

Anyone one have any idea what's causing it?

Halloween

Nov. 1st, 2014 10:36 am
arenee1999: (Autumn)
This year was ... odd. We normally get 2 large bags of candy from Costco/Sam's Club and end up giving most of it away. This year we had a total of 20 kids. We had at least double that last year when it was raining! Plus it was a Friday, no school the next day, so we thought we'd have tons of kids!

What's even weirder, none of the kids were really dressed up. Most of them either had a bit of face make up smeared on (but as no recognizable character or pattern) or had a Jason Mask with make up splotches on it.

We're slightly confused.

I did manage to get 7 of the new dragon eggs on Dragon Cave, plus made a Zombie, so I'm quite happy about that.
arenee1999: (Fanfic)
This will likely be my last rectober post. It's going up today because I won't have any time to post tomorrow. All these recs are [livejournal.com profile] samhain_smut entries from previous years. This is just a sampling, there are plenty more lovely fics over there. Take a look through the masterlist from each year to make searching easier. :)

None of these are Harry Potter fics! :) They are all crossovers and from a myrid of fandoms.

Seven fics this time ... )
