A/N: You may think you’re squicked by “watersports,” but this is NOT your grandmother’s watersports kink fic; in fact, I’m even reluctant to call this a “kink fic” at all (although it definitely is very very kinky). This is a romantic story that features a new way of making love when one of the partners has suffered a severe spinal cord injury and can no longer have a "traditional" orgasm. Until now, I’ve stayed away from reading & writing watersports fics because they so often involve humiliation, which I don’t like unless done exceedingly well. There is no humiliation in this story, only intense desire and a will to overcome any kind of adversity for the sake of love. *blushes at own sappiness & hides under bed* So that's what the fic is. What it is not is a "disability kink" fic. There is no fetishization of disability and no weird & creepy sexualized power dynamics related to disability.

Why I loved it:
The beginning is so heart-wrenchingly angsty. Then it's just beautiful and romantic and HOT as hell. I am such a sucker for fics that combine all of that into one story and this one does it brilliantly.

I've decided to give this a try. I'll be posting recs for fics that, for one reason or another, aren't on my HP rec list. Including at least 1 post dedicated to seemigly abandonded WIP's. I'll try for 1-2 posts per week with 2-3+ recs per post. I'll also try to slip in at least 1 post of fic for something other than Harry Potter, but really it's been well over a year since I've read anything else. Oops.

My love of fanfic began in the Buffy fandom and quickly spiraled out of control. XD I generally gage how fannish I am about a show/movie/book series by whether I want to read fic about it and if so, how much fic I read before I get bored with it.

By that definition the only thing I am truly fannish about at the moment is Harry Potter. While I am still reading fic in a few other fandoms, mostly for epic_recs, HP is the only one I currently am still at the stage where I HAVE TO READ EVERYTHING!!!! *g*

Over the years I have read fic in the following fandoms: Highlander, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Doctor Who, Blake's 7, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Harry Potter, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Tin Man (Sy Fy), Robing Hood (BBC), Sherlock Holmes (RDJ!Movieverse), Andromeda, Star Trek TOS, White Collar, Torchwood, The Beatles RPS, The Who RPS, RDJ/Jude Law RPS

I have even written a few fics. Most of them are now up on AO3 or can be found here under the 'my fic' tag or in my memories. I have written in Highlander (I don't suggest reading those), Blake's 7 (I actually like a few of those), 1 Star Trek Drabble (I wish I knew how to make this longer), 1 HP ficlet (which I actually like quite a bit), and 1 Sherlock Holmes/Iron Man crossover double-drabble (that is hilarious).


A few favorites (in multiple fandoms):

Survival of the Species by Romaine [Harry Potter, Harry/Draco, NC-17]
Draco approaches Harry on the 9 ¾ platform, after their sons have boarded the Hogwarts Express, and invites him over for tea. The discussion they have leads them on an adventure that neither could have expected. There be dragons! HPDH compliant.
Note: This is the fic that made me love Lucius. He's not even in it until the end, but something in those last few scenes made my heart melt. Oh, and despite the warnings on this one it does have a happy ending!

Kiss the Steel and Kiss of Shadows by esjay [Highlander, Duncan/Methos, NC-17]
"Nobody else dies because of me." Then someone did. And he might not be the last.
Note: There is so much angst in this, but it is a beautiful story.

Death Brings Clarity Series by JK Philips [BtVS, Buffy/Giles, R] (with optional NC-17 scene)
Post-“Gift” epic. Giles has a moment of clarity, but it’s too late. How he deals with Buffy’s death and how she comes back to him.
Note: One of the 'must reads' of the pairing.

Reflections by Van [Doctor Who, Two/Jamie, NC-17]
Charged with saving the universe, can the Doctor overcome his own darkness to defeat the Daleks? A Mirrorverse fic.
Note: Just choosing one of Van's fics was nearly impossible. I highly recommend any and all of his fics. He's written in multiple fandoms over the years, but the majority of them are probably DW.

The Price and Courts of Honor by Syn Ferguson [Star Trek: TOS, Kirk/Spock, NC-17]
A newcomer to the Enterprise awakens troubling feelings in both Kirk and Spock. Before they have a chance to resolve things, Kirk sends Spock on a difficult mission from which the Vulcan will not return unscathed.
Note: Go read it! No, seriously. Go. Read.

I have a few author websites saved as well, but I could really use more archives that have multiple authors and multiple ships.

I've come to love reading fic on AO3 for the simple reason that the multi-chapter EPICS that I am drawn to can easily be downloaded and put on my Kindle. Reading novels off the computer kills my neck and back. Most of the HP fic rec posts I've found rec fic on ff.net, which I despise, or here on LJ. So,  I've compiled a list of recs mainly from AO3. There are a few thrown in from other places as well.

I hope to keep adding to this list as I read more, as well as adding more pairings.



Why, yes I've found a fandom where I like Het pairings. ;) It happens so rarely it deserves special notice. *grins*
